Kim Kardashian is one of the most famous mothers on the planet. Naturally, she is a prime target for mom-shamers.
This time, she’s accused of endangering her first-born daughter … to the likes of human traffickers.
Kim posted a photo of the five-year-old North in a bikini, and that just did not sit right with a lot of her followers.
North is five years old. In the eyes of some of Kim’s followers, that makes her too young to wear a two-piece.
“That swimsuit is a bit inappropriate for a little girl in my opinion,” wrote one reasonably restrained mom-shamer.
A couple of other commenters chimed in on that particular vantage point, writing “agreed” and “amen.”
“You should not post pictures of your children on social media,” instructed one commenter, somewhat more bluntly.
“You should protect them or at least keep them in child-appropriate clothing. Babies should not be in bikinis! It’s sick.”
Another Internet troll wrote:
“A child that age shouldn’t be wearing such a tiny bikini. If she was older yes. But then it’s no surprise as she has kim as a mother.”
That’s fairly harsh.
“Teaching them young how to be a Kardashian,” another wrote, implying once again that Kim is a bad parent. “Showing half ur body.”
“She is just 5 why does Kim want to exploit her child like this???” another added, implying something even more sinister at work.
(We’re not sure how Kim is exploiting North here. We didn’t notice any product promotion in the pic, but maybe that’s just us.)
“I have a daughter and she wears bikinis,” wrote another, exercising more restraint while still offering some criticism of Kimberly.
“But this one is a bit too revealing.”
“On a little girl that age, it’s not appropriate,” another insists. “Yes she is beautiful like her mother but still let’s show a little respect.”
We’re not sure how someone’s outfit conveys disrespect.
“When you put something like that on a 5 year old she is too young to wear something like that is very inappropriate for her to be wearing at this age,” another declares.
“This is why youngsters like that get taken.”
Whoa! Let’s clarify that the outfits that children wear are absolutely not why children get abducted.
“You’re showing too much for her age to be wearing something like that bikini you are just show boating your daughter and that’s wrong,” declares another troll.
Someone else targets North specifically, saying that she “needs to have respect for herself.”
Again … what is disrespectful about an outfit?
“Its not that North is wearing a bikino that bothers me,” writes another. “Its the pose she’s striking. Its looks just a little too suggestive for a 5 year old in my opinion.”
Others came to the defense of Kim – and of North – and rightly pointed out that the only thing “inappropriate” about this situation is going on in the minds of the mom-shamers.
“innapropriate is someone thinking that’s innapropriate,” one pointed out. “Get yourself checked.”
We’re not sure how someone would “check” for general creepiness, but that’s a good line.
“If you’re [perving on] a child wearing a swimsuit, there’s something wrong with YOU, not with that child,” points out another.
Another writes: “Let girls wear what they want without shaming them, sheesh!”
“All the hate and unsolicited advice on how she should raise HER child is unbelievable to me!!!” another defender says.
“If you have nothing nice to say, then don’t say it at all. If you don’t like her, why you here?”
That is a very good question.
“The hell with the pigs,” one says, dismissing the haters. “It’s adorable!!!”
“I don’t know why there’s a lot of negativity about this picture,” writes another. “At eight I was still running around street topless and playing soccer with my cousins.”
“Yes there is weirdos perverts everywhere and we all have too protect are kids,” one acknowledges.
“But really Kim there isnt anything wrong with this pic north looks adorable!!”
Also, we’re pretty sure that Kim and Kanye have made certain that North is safe.
Another writes very succinctly: “it’s a freakin swimsuit.”
“its fashion,” says another. “Some parents get that its fashion and some parents just can’t see past a two piece & feel uncomfortable.”
“Why are people attacking Kim about this?” another exclaims. “What’s wrong with it? I mean at some point in our lives we all did wear a bikini as a child.”
Well, maybe not all of us, but it’s true that this would be a normal thing for a 5-year-old to wear at any pool.
“Instead of teaching girls to constantly be worried about perverts how about we teach the boys not to be pervs??” suggests another defender.
That person continues: “Clothes can change in a second. Perverts can’t; what’s the real problem here huh?”
A lot of people seem to think that sex offenders, whether they target adults or children, are somehow irresistibly enticed by, like, bare shoulders or crop tops or bikinis.
That is absolutely not the case.
What fuels sexual predators is complicated, but a child could go out in a full Wookiee costume and still be a target for some monster. The same is true of an adult woman.
Kim isn’t exploiting North or endangering her. She’s sharing an innocuous family photo.
The people who have a problem with that should probably rethink how they view the world and where they place blame.
